LAPADA the Association of Art and Antiques Dealers hosted its eighth annual LAPADA Conference – the leading industry forum of its kind in the UK art and antiques trade – last Wednesday 24th February 2016, at the House of Lords.

This year’s conference focused on how art and antiques dealers can maximise online sales. Five expert speakers offered their advice and insights into the tools needed to exploit new technologies, tackle challenges and better market themselves in order to sell more within today’s ever-changing digital landscape.

Speakers included:

Karl McKeever, Founder & Managing Director of Visual Thinking, emphasised the importance of visual merchandising. He explained how VM can effect customer experience and commercial performance. He also offered practical advice on how to sell in galleries, shops and at fairs from effective displays to appropriate signage.

Rebecca Davies, LAPADA Chief Executive, explored the business management tools available to dealers. Chaim Bacon of Antiquity Software demonstrated how his programme allows users to streamline the online selling process and create seamless links between databases, websites and selling portals; which ultimately minimisise workload and maximisise selling time.

Carolyn Dailey, Founder & CEO at the Dailey Partnership and former Time Warner UK managing director who helped launch CNN in Europe, gave an enlivening speech about the power of branding. Carolyn was named by WIRED Magazine as one of the Top 10 Women Digital Power Brokers in ‘The WIRED 100’ and by The Evening Standard as one of the 1,000 most influential Londoners.

Cathy Ma, Digital, Content, Analytics & Social Media Consultant, gave invaluable insider tips on successful social media marketing. She also spoke on strategy, how to better understand users, choosing relevant social media channels and measuring success.

Charlie Kaufman FSWPP Hon., CEO Click Connection Corporation, reminded the audience that strong product images are critical for online selling success. He offered tips on image editing and how to create a portable, professional studio on a budget.
